Austrian Post: 18 million DSGVO fine
18 million fine plus 1.8 million in procedural costs, that’s the DSB‘s verdict. The Post had created profiles of more than three million Austrians. Information on residential address personal preferences, living habits and also possible party affinities were stored and sold on to parties and companies. Swiss Post appealed against this decision. It argues that as a direct marketing company, it is in its own interest to collect and process this data. The entire processing procedure is thus part of the business model and therefore indispensable. The Post’s leadership hopes that this line of argument will reduce the fine in later instances.
