GDPR Fine Imposed on Tax Office
The Bulgarian data protection authority has imposed a fine of approximately €28,000 on the Bulgarian Ministry of Finance. In contrast to Austria or Germany, authorities in Bulgaria can also be subject to fines.
The Ministry of Finance attempted to collect tax debts from a woman living abroad. In order to obtain more information about the data subject, a personal register was inspected, although this is not cleared for this purpose. Thus, the authority violated the GDPR and was therefore asked to pay.
