A police officer of the Hamburg Police, discovered a dashcam on the windshield of a car, which led to the Hamburg Data Protection Commissioner investigating.

In the course of the investigation, the authority found that the dashcam was recording during the whole time of the drive. Vehicle license plates of road users, pedestrians as well as cyclists were clearly recorded. Furthermore, the dashcam has the function of recording only on occasion, which the recipient of the fine had not activated.

The HmbBfDI imposed a fine in the mid three-digit range for this violation.
