Studios MG Ltd – promotional emails with advertising: 43,928.00 EUR penalty
Studios MG Ltd, a software consulting company based in London has received a fine in the amount of 43,928 euros for advertising emails without the consent of the data subjects.
On April 30, 2020, too 9,000 promotional emails were sent to individuals without their consent. The content of the email was mouth masks advertised to protect against Covid-19. The investigation revealed that the company wanted to take advantage of the peak of the pandemic and decided to purchase mouth guards and resell them at a profit. It was also noted that after the agency contacted him, the responsible party deleted a database of evidence that would have revealed the full extent and scope of the emails he sent. Studios MG Ltd. randomly collected a list of contacts from various sources, including LinkedIn and email contacts of the company director.
Studios MG Ltd has violated Regulation 21B PECR.
