Unauthorized sending of 500,000 marketing emails
As part of a government voucher program, the company had sent a marketing email to about 500,000 customers. The email touted what appeared to be a coupon. However, customers were instead asked to schedule a free bike inspection and redeem the voucher at any Halfords store. The competent authority considered this to be unlawful advertising of services, as there was no consent of the persons concerned for advertising communication.
