Fine for Callcenter for illegal marketing calls
The German Callcenter SG Sales and Distribution GmbH had to pay 300.000€. The company contacted over 1.400 individuals, to convince them to change their energy provider. The affected people never agreed to these marketing calls, making them illegal.
Additionally, the Callcenter used manipulative conversation techniques and other mean measures to convince the consumers to switch their energy provider. For example, employees of the Callcenter introduced themselves as “independent rate optimizers” or employees of the affected person’s current energy provider and provided the affected individuals with wrong or misleading information about energy prices to trick the people they called into trusting them. Sometimes the employees of the Callcenter even posed as employees of a fictional “German Energy Optimization Authority” or even the real Federal Network Agency – which fined them for 300.000€.
